Beto O’Rourke Takes on Immigration

Beto O’Rourke is not only running for president in 2020, he was also a representative for the House of Representatives until the beginning of 2019.

He’s loud and proud of being born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He also has a plan for improving immigration, which is the central pillar to his presidential platform.

The Plan

Beto O’Rourke feels that, because he’s from Texas, he’s uniquely aware of the situation and how to make it better.

He has introduced a plan that includes three main areas: abolishing current family separation policies, investing money in Central America, and working to reform the system with Congress.

By abolishing the family separation policies in place, he would switch to community-based programs as well as family case management.

He wants only those with criminal backgrounds who face a threat to the US to be mandatorily detained.

He would also like to invest $5 billion into the Northern Triangle, which includes El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.

The money would be used for non-violence training, job training, fostering economic opportunities, and promoting civil rights.

As for how he will ensure the funds are spent properly, he has a loose answer that involves rigorously measuring the investment.

Finally, he wants to push Congress to push more aggressive immigration laws, which includes updating the US Refugee Admissions Program and creating a pathway for Dreamers.

Creating this pathway would allow over 11 million people to become citizens of the United States.

What’s Being Said About It

Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, stated that the proposals would end up making everything considerably worse at the border. It could, in fact, encourage illegal immigration.

Paxton said that there are key things that need to be added, noting that the state sees as many as 10,000 immigrants at the border each and every month.

Among the things he says that is required includes more border agents, a wall, and more technology. Otherwise, it’s creating an incentive for further immigration.

There’s no plan for a wall in Beto’s plan, which poses a problem for many.

Talk of the wall came long before Trump, though he’s been the most vocal about it. According to the politician, there’s no need for a wall.

He believes that there’s no reason to take private property away from people in order to build a wall. He believes that immigration reform, alone, will be sufficient security.

Another aspect of his immigration reform that’s missing is to cover those that have overstayed their visa.

When Beto O’Rourke launched an ad that attacked Trump about the border, he showed footage of the Rio Grande and explained that a wall would cut off access to the river and much more.

He also noted that most of the undocumented immigrants arriving in the US over the past 10 years were because of expired visas, not coming over the border illegally.

Considering that he has acknowledged that this is an issue, his plan should have addressed this.

When someone asks about how he plans to address this, his response is, “I don’t know.” That’s a concern, and one that he needs to add to his plan if he plans on modernizing immigration.

Beto is planning on making this the largest overhaul of immigration that the country has ever seen, if he’s elected as President.

Before that can happen, he needs to talk about his plan in greater detail, addressing the biggest issues of immigration.

Currently, the only thing that he’s doing is playing on what Dems really want: No wall and a promise for a better immigration system. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to get the votes.

What America Wants

According to Beto O’Rourke, he wants to work with everyday Americans to get many of the answers for immigration.

He wants to inform Americans and give them the facts, the story, and the information.

From there, he wants to give them the opportunity to make the right decisions about what should be done for the country.

What he’s forgetting, however, is that there’s a big divide in the country between Republicans and Democrats.

Further, decisions aren’t made by the general American public, and haven’t for quite some time.

The House and the Senate are designed to be the voice of America – yet they’re too busy fighting each other over the petty in order to do what’s really right for America.

Ultimately, Beto O’Rourke has a plan that he’s toting as the solution for America.

As the central platform for his presidency, there are a lot of holes.

It doesn’t cover everything (or anything, really). It’s likely not enough to get the attention he needs as a real contender for the race, considering he’s up against bigger names from the Democratic Party like Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren.
