Former US Representative and current White House hopeful Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke isn’t necessarily known for his calm disposition and a level head. Nor is he known for really caring what people think, which is evident by his stance on gun control.
He has long been a supporter of stricter gun laws. But after a series of horrible mass shootings around the nation, both his polite campaign mannerisms and small sense of leniency has vanished. Now he stands at war, claiming to be Trump and the Second Amendment’s biggest enemy.
And if this wasn’t clear to anyone before Thursday’s Democratic debate, it sure is now.
During his performance there, he was asked about his gun control proposals and how those would play out, in particular, “assault weapons.”
His response was, “Hell yes, we are going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.” His idea is that Americans will be forced to relinquish their weapons by participating in a mandatory “buyback” program. It’s clear this response wasn’t a spontaneous, off the cuff thought. Nope, O’Rourke and his campaign must have planned this all out.
Because the day after the debate, the Beto 2020 online store started selling shirts restating this new campaign phrase on them in bright, bold letters. They make an excellent addition to a store that also sells shirts saying, “This is F*cked Up” six times followed by “End gun violence now.”
But perhaps he should spend less time designing shirts to fuel his campaign and start thinking about the logic behind his gun control proposals and how the nation will react. It might not all go as he planned.
Just as he was very clear about his intentions for taking your Second Amendment rights, the public is making it just as evident that they are not in agreement with him.
Alpha Dog Firearms, located in Tempe, Arizona, is giving Beto a run for his money.
On Friday, they announced a “Beto special” sale on all AR-15s and AK-47s. If the Texas lawman aims to take your guns, then this store and its customers are giving him something to take.
Their Facebook post for Friday read, “Beto O’Rourke said ‘hell yes, we’re taking your AR’s. Well Beto, we’re discounting AR15’s to such a low price that EVERY AMERICAN can afford one.”
“How about the low, low price of just $349.99? Yeah, that works. Available online only. Go to www.alphadogfirearmsaz.com and look for all our AR15s and AK47 deals under the BETO SPECIALS tab. Deals and discounts will be added fresh all day!”
And the call to rise up and show Beto just how wrong he is about Americans going willing to the slaughter did not go unnoticed.
Within hours the post was liked nearly 5,000 times and accrued about 17,000 shares. Plus, they completely sold out.
Alpha Dog Firearms had to post, “UPDATE: SOLD OUT. More deals will be on the website soon. Y’all broke our internet today!!!”
I’d say the message was received loud and clear.
America answered, just like any independent human being would, willing to demonstrate they can do anything they are told not to. Beto said we couldn’t have these guns. And the people of America responded by buying every last one of them up. Boy, did they prove him wrong.
If he thought, even for a second, that he was going to 1.) get away with this and 2.) do it without a fight, he has another thing coming. Sounds like he needs a reality check and if this won’t do it, I don’t know what will.
It’s high time he dropped this stance and whole dream of being president. Americans won’t stand for it or anyone who aims to take away our rights, which is precisely why Beto doesn’t have shirts proclaiming a high percentage in the polls. He hasn’t even hit 5%, let alone a number that would actually add up to any sort of success. For a man “born to be” president of the United States, he sure has a funny way of showing it.
